When students are referred to CBC by social workers, we do not see them as “at-risk,” but rather “on the brink of success.” Our programs are designed to be a step by step process in character development. We recognize that our students’ lives may be to windward, a beating battle, but we help them fill their sails and capsize their fears, as they hike towards self discovery. This past summer, CBC served another record number of students in our youth programs. While the cumulative impact we have on our students is tough to measure, the numbers are an important metric because they show we are reaching more kids in need.

CBC’s Annual Fund is an extremely important part of CBC’s fundraising and this year, our goal is $90,000. Annual Fund contributions support a variety of operational expenses that are crucial for running our award-winning programs. CBC offers a unique program using sailing as a tool to help instill important life lessons in our students, many of whom do not receive positive mentoring in their homes. Now more than ever we need to foster leadership and teamwork values in our local youth. CBC helps students discover that they have limitless potential by exposing them to challenging activities that push their comfort levels and make them think outside their comfort zone. The children of Greater New Bedford have never needed your help more than they do now.

Kids need levity in their lives. They need to feel uninhibited, confident and free to broaden their horizons. All children need role models and moments of triumph to help them obtain the necessary life skills that will one day make them contributing members of our community. Please help CBC to continue improving the lives of our area youth by helping us awaken in them a desire to try their best and step outside their comfort zone.
