CBC runs
six youth
programs during the course of the summer. The Youth Cruising
program introduces children to the water, with an emphasis
on safety while promoting teamwork, self-confidence and new
friendships. This new program for seven and eight year olds
is designed to breakdown barriers small children have when
introduced to water by introducing them to an alternative
positive program at a younger age. The goal of this new
program is to introduce positive life factors at a young age
to increase our 50% program retention rate.
The Learn-to-Sail program introduces children to the water
and sailing and stresses cooperation, respect for others and
team work. Its success is attributable to the emotional
connections our instructors are able to forge with these
children, many of whom have never been on the water before.
The goal of this program is to build trust.
The new Optimist class focuses on empowering the students
and helping them develop a sense of self-reliance, while the
new Teen Cruising class provides a great opportunity for
making lasting friendships as often times the students opt
to take the larger boats out, providing ample opportunities
for meaningful discussions amongst the staff and students.
Lastly, our Intermediate and Advanced classes focus on
teamwork and increasing self-confidence and preparedness
skills, while using teambuilding exercises and activities to
enhance team cohesiveness and prepare students for traveling
outside New Bedford.
