NEW BEDFORD GLOBAL LEARNING
CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL
The New
Bedford Global Learning Charter High School (GLCS) has tied
CBC into its 9th grade curriculum. During the fall and
spring GLCS 9th grade students come down to CBC twice a week
for a couple of hours during the school day. The program
allows for a different learning environment. Students are
able to tie in what they have learned in the physics and
biology classroom to sailing and the sailing environment.
Students work in a team setting, allowing them to work on
their interpersonal skills with the help of CBC mentors
(instructors). Students also gain self confidence by being
empowered to handle the responsibilty of sailing a boat
without an instructor on board. Finally, the program also
allows the students the opportunity to get some physical
activity which is important considering the school lacks a
gymnasium.
