Program Mission Statement
The primary mission of Sailing Through School™ is to advance student achievement in science, math, and engineering using a fun and motivating activity (r/c landsailing) as the "tool".

RC landsailing adds a fresh dimension to conventional "wet" sailing. Landsailers are much like their close relatives, the iceboats. Quick acceleration to blazing speeds is what makes landsailing so much fun. Like iceboats, landsailers do not have jibs because they simply go too fast to make them useful. And you don't need water or freezing temperatures to enjoy this. There's probably a parking lot, beach, or playground close to your home or work place. Enjoy!

Using the radio controller, the skipper can maneuver it through tacks and gibes quickly and easily. The "steering servo" controls the front wheel via a control rod. The "sail servo" controls sail sheeting, in and out. Landsailing is easy to learn but hard to master, making it an activity that continues to challenge.

We are fortunate to finally have affordable, lightweight materials to build and control these head-spinning "landyachts". All Speedygo II kits come with an aluminum chassis, carbon fiber tubing, stainless steel axles, and slippery scooter wheels. Whether you are new to sailing or a veteran racer, you are sure to see why more people are discovering landsailing as a hobby or sport. I have personally guided 6th-8th grade students in constructing landsailers as an after school activity and THEY LOVED IT! They learned a tremendous amount while they had fun. The math, science, and engineering connections are appropriate for students of all ages (even college engineering students have built landsailers). Building and testing a landsailer can also make an exciting culminating project for high school students who are interested in sailing, maritime studies, aeronautics, or engineering.

What other sailboats can you sail year-round, safely,
conveniently, and go this fast??
