This summer CBC will be launching a new aquaculture program, growing oysters right here in Clark’s Cove!  Our Operations Manager, Taber, will be leading this new initiative and has been working with Seth Garfield from Cuttyhunk Shellfish Farms to learn about the process.  Last week Taber visited Seth on Cuttyhunk and got some firsthand experience.  His thoughts on it are below.

Last Saturday was an eventful day at Cuttyhunk Shellfish Farms. I worked with Seth Garfield and his crew to seed out some 68,000 oysters. The process is straightforward–scoop the oysters into the lantern nets, sew the opening of the nets closed, and check for any holes. The filled lantern nets get loaded onto a raft and then hung from floats along a long line anchored at both ends. Spring is seeding season on the farm and many more such Saturdays are likely to follow.
