Oliver Moore

Oliver Moore

President

Oliver and his brother Sam own and run Moore Brothers Company which is a custom composite fabrication shop in Bristol, Rhode Island.  They specialize in carbon fiber parts for sailboats, but work with a variety of industries including renewable energies, undersea exploration and medical.  After graduating from Williams College in 2008 with a BS in physics, Oliver followed his passion for sailing into the world of boat building. After challenging for the Little America’s cup in C Class catamarans and working for several marine industry leaders, Oliver partnered with Sam and set to work on their own company in 2014.

Oliver grew up with CBC as his mother was one of the founding board members. He has seen the organization grow from the vision of a few inspired individuals into the thriving community center it is today. Joining the board in 2013, he has had a front row seat to the latest round of exciting growth and can’t wait to see where the CBC team goes next.

Mark Smith

Mark Smith

Vice President

Mark joined the Community Boating Center Board in the fall of 2019 and currently serves on the Development and Program committees. His career includes public school teaching, banking and finance, and strategic consulting. After serving for over a decade as a senior partner in a global professional services firm, Mark started his own consulting business (ML Smith Partners) which provides a range of services such as strategic planning, recruiting, and executive counseling to clients in a variety of industries. Earlier in his life, he taught sailing to young adults at a summer camp in New Hampshire. Mark moved to the Southcoast four years ago from Boston and lives in South Dartmouth.

Peter Kavanaugh

Peter is a lifelong resident of the area, who graduated from the University of Rhode Island. He has been the president and owner of Kavanaugh Development, a company that builds and manages commercial real estate in the Southcoast, since 1986. He is also the president and owner of Brownell Boat Stands in Mattapoisett. He has four grown and married children and has been married himself to his wife Mary for 39 years.

Jenn is a lifelong resident of South Dartmouth and a boating enthusiast, who is passionate about CBC’s mission. She works as an English teacher and is also an active NBYC member and co-chair of New Bedford Junior Regatta. She and her husband Stephen have two children, Patrick and Sophie.

Patrick Carney

Patrick Carney

Patrick Jr. joined Claremont in 2007 after working 11 years on trading desks at both Fidelity Investments and Tudor Investments. He now spends his time pursuing new property and development opportunities as well as overseeing Claremont’s current holdings. Patrick received his BA from Boston College in 1995.

Kevin Horst

Kevin Horst

Kevin learned from growing up on Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA that access to the water is vital in a young person’s life. He moved to Boston in 1990 and got his first taste of sailing to take his love of water to a higher level. After 30 exciting years working with Costco Wholesale he retired to spend more time with family, enjoy sailing, and check some items off his bucket list. Many of those items include giving back to the wonderful community he has found in his adopted state. Kevin is proud to work with The Heather Abbott Foundation, Coastal Neighbors Network, and now the CBC. He thanks Andy and the Board for welcoming him and he looks forward to helping young people on the south coast learn, grow, and connect on the water. Kevin and his husband Mike split their time between South Dartmouth and Boston.

 

Chip Johns

Chip Johns

Chip has lived on Massachusetts’ Southcoast for his entire life, except for his college years in upstate New York. Chip’s professional experience includes running or advising a diverse group of companies in a variety of industries in New England. Chip lives in Mattapoisett with his wife and has three grown children.

Kamile Khazan

Kamile Khazan

Kamile Khazan is a multigenerational New Bedford resident. Her family members’ history ranges from civil rights activism, cultural and historical preservation, entrepreneurship, decorated military service, and working on the waterfront as far back as the whaling industry. She is a graduate of the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School with a focus in Culinary Arts and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a BA in HSS, focusing on mass communications, music and politics. She later took graduate courses in Public Relations at Emerson College.

After graduation, she followed her passion for mass communications and political awareness to Hartford, CT. where she worked for NBC 30 WVIT-TV and later Maryland’s ICTS/Computer Training (now UMBC) before returning back to New Bedford.

Upon returning to New Bedford, Kamile became a Creative Consultant for musicians and artists by helping them expand their markets through out Massachusetts, New York, Philadelphia, Rhode Island, Connecticut and the DC/Maryland areas.

In addition to supporting the arts, Kamile has continued to follow in her family’s footsteps by volunteering for various cultural, historical, and community involved initiatives. She has also volunteered to help out local officials during election years and is presently a member of the New Bedford Planning Board.

Lauren Lemieux

Lauren Lemieux

Lauren grew up in Dartmouth, spending her summers on Buzzards Bay on her family’s power boat.  After graduating from UMass Dartmouth, she began working at Barden’s Boat Yard along side her mother.  After 18 years in the family business, Lauren moved on to find her true purpose and is now a certified life coach from the Coaches Training Institute and accredited by the International Coaching Federation.  Coaching To Fulfill Dreams is her coaching business, where her clients are both private individuals looking for personal fulfillment and small business owners striving for professional success.   She also works with Catholic Social Services in New Bedford, coaching those just out of homelessness transition towards economic stability.

Lauren has long supported CBC and has attended almost every Opening of the Bay fundraiser.  After her ‘retirement’ from the boat yard in 2013, she joined the OOTB committee and became chairperson from 2014-2016.   She was invited to join the board in 2015.

She currently lives in Acushnet with her husband, Doug, and daughter, Caroline.

Mariann Monteiro

Mariann Monteiro

Mariann Monteiro is the mother of 3 daughters (2 current and 1 future CBC sailor), who is a nurse in Maternity and Neonatal care and works as a nursing care manager for medically fragile adult and pediatric patients who receive care at home. She is an alumna of CBC programs, who sailed here from the organization’s founding through 2002, as both a student and instructor.

Sam Vineyard

Sam Vineyard

Sam grew up sailing and racing on Buzzards Bay and has never left.  Shortly after graduating Connecticut College,  He was approached by a close friend who wanted to connect inner city kids in New Bedford with sailing.  Teaching life lessons and skills using the water and boats!   Sam recently rejoined the board of Directors after a few year hiatus.  Sam and his wife Hilary and son Oliver can often be found sailing Buzzards Bay and the Islands aboard Hawke.

Kelsey Martins-Pelsue

Kelsey Martins-Pelsue is a resident of the south coast community who has been supporting various non-profits in the area for a long time. When she is not volunteering, she works as an accountant for an insurance firm. Kelsey has had a longtime interest in CBC and is highly passionate about it. She was once a student at CBC and later on worked as an instructor all throughout her high school and college years. Kelsey has witnessed firsthand the positive impact CBC has on the lives of its students and families, and she is committed to supporting CBC’s mission. A longtime resident of the south coast community, Kelsey Martins-Pelsue has always been passionate about supporting various non-profits in the area. When not donating her time and effort, she works as an accountant for an insurance firm. Kelsey is especially passionate about CBC. She first attended CBC as a student and later worked for CBC as an instructor through high school and into college. Kelsey knows firsthand the powerful impact CBC has on the lives of its students and families and is driven to support CBC’s mission.

Ricardo Bermudez

Ricardo has lived in Dartmouth since 1987. He graduated with degrees in engineering from the University of Rhode Island and University of Texas. In 1990 he founded Sensing Systems Corporation, a company that designs and manufactures sensors for the medical, aerospace and robotic industries. He has been married to his wife Pam for 39 years and has 3 grown children.

Herlihy’s lifelong love of sailing was fostered as a child, when he sailed with his family around Buzzards Bay and the Cape and Islands, and he continues to sail with his wife Liz and two children on their sloop Mi Girl. He sailed at Georgetown University, where he graduated in 1998 with a degree in Economics.

Andy intends to impart the life lessons that he has learned on the water as a crew member and at the helm to the children who experience CBC’s programs each year. “Boating is the perfect tool for teaching. When a child steps on a boat for the first time they are forced to rely on their instructors and fellow sailors as they are in an environment so far out of their comfort zones. This helps us to quickly break down barriers and to form special bonds with each child
